The best workout is the one you look forward to. And sometimes… you haven’t found it yet. Sometimes, courage and curiosity, not motivation, discipline, or consistency is the first step. Maybe you just haven’t found the type of movement that your body truly lights up for. Courage can look like being a novice again, whether that means learning gym equipment, trying a new running route, signing up for a dance or yoga class, or exploring any form of movement that sparks curiosity.
For many of us, movement and exercise have felt like a struggle. Starting over again can feel scary. “What if I can’t be consistent?” “Should I even bother?” Often, these thoughts are subconsciously guiding our actions without our full awareness. They quietly shape how we show up, or sometimes, how we avoid showing up at all.
Two things can be true at the same time. You can feel awkward, afraid, or uncertain being new to a form of movement AND still enjoy it. Let the joy of movement lighten the fear and doubts. Movement doesn’t have to be boring or dreadful. It can feel like joy, curiosity, and discovery.
You’re allowed to start again. And again. And again. There’s no limit on new beginnings.
If something feels even a little curious… that might be your starting point.
Movement is not about perfection. It’s not about comparing yourself to anyone else. It’s about exploring what makes your body feel alive. It’s about giving yourself permission to play, to experiment, and to return to it as many times as you need.
So whether you’re stepping into a new class, trying a piece of equipment for the first time, or just deciding to playfully move your body today, give yourself grace. Show up for curiosity. Lean into courage. And remember, the best workout is the one that brings you back to joy.
